This beautiful lover’s eye image inside a sacred flaming heart has been decoupaged onto the front of an upcycled, black, wooden, Tabak cigar box- just stunning! Sixteen small pearls rim the heart and four large pearls frame the corners along with gold corner protectors. These lover’s eyes were popular in the 18th century. Lovers would hire someone to paint their eye and send to their lover to keep in a locket. Rumor has it that the Prince of Wales (George IV) had one sent to his lover, Maria Fitzherbert, trying to win her over. The back is in it’s original condition- black. The cigar box also has the original and authentic gold trim and label on the inner lid as well as the intricate, original, green seal. A chain keeps the lid from opening all the way back- also original. The handle is made up of blue, gold, pearl and silver beads and a fat gold tassel.
